About me
I'm a young at heart old fart who's tired of being lied to, shafted, and treated like a mushroom. I'm single, a father of 4, adopted one more, stepfather of 3, and grandpa to 7 more...

I'm tired of BushCo's bushit, tired of milk and gasoline rivaling each other's prices, tired of worrying that my stepson - newly minted in the TXNG - might be sent to the quagmires (2008: It's happening - He's preparing for Iraq now...), and extremely tired of pseudo-liberals telling me "it'll be alright," but without manifesting either a plan or the cojones to carry one out...

I want Bush gone! I want Cheney gone! I want Rice gone! I want Rove, Rumsfeld and Gonzales tried. I want the Republican Party Email infrastructure investigated! I want our troops OUT of Iraq, and aimed at the right battlefield. I want HELP for the 9-11 victims, and those of hurricanes Katrina and Rita! I want New Orleans rebuilt! and, I want universal health care NOW!
Interests
I'm happy outdoors, by a stream, under a tree, playing guitar and just talking with folk about whatever concerns them. I'm an avid reader, a serious and certified computer tech, and a 30+ year musician. I don't discuss religion (pagan), politics (liberal independent) or sexuality (straight) at work or with minors, but, get me in the right crowd, and you may not want to go there...
Organizations I belong to
Several computer/technical/educational organizations, TexasforObama, ObamaRapidResponse

Movies
Not too much into movies, But I like Shooter, The Stand, Wanted, The Hunt for Red October, Spaceballs, Aeon Flux, Star Wars, and several classics. I also enjoy some politically relevant TV, like Babylon 5, Star Trek (original, TNG and DS9) and the original CSI.
Heroes and influences
Worf, G'Kar, Alyt Neroon, John Clark, Chris de Burgh, Al Stewart, Richard Bach, Gene Roddenberry, J. Michael Straczynski, Keith Olbermann, Starhawk, Silver Ravenwolf, Delenn, Sun Tsu...

I can't think of a better way to say this...

Look at it, read the text, watch the videos, and learn that we need to protect ourselves from within as well as from without. If she achieves office, nothing changes.

A Question of Constitutional Semantics

When any citizen, or would-be citizen of the United States enlists in the military, accepts an appointed or elected public office, or enters into a contract with the government of the United States to provide services for said states, he or she is generally required to swear an oath of office, loyalty or allegiance, (and sometimes, secrecy), wherein he pledges to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. …

I wonder...

Did anyone call "911" on 9-11? Is anyone as creeped-out about the dark similarities of these national institutions as I am? Was 9-11 perhaps a 911 call to all of us?

Someone's captured Lady Liberty, bound her hands, gagged her, enshrouded her in a "damned piece of paper," shut her in a box, and buried her deep in the back yard of a house at 1600, hopefully to go un-noticed for all time. Before her air runs out, shouldn't someone call 911?

Mistakes

In 1972, former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (then a freshly minted Vietnam war veteran) asked, in his testimony before congress, "How do you ask anyone to be the last man to die for a mistake?" This thought was again dredged up during Kerry's failed election bid in 2004.

It probably made good political sense to repeat that old refrain then, but why not now, when mistakes compound exponentially by the day, with no apparent relief in site?

The Iraq war is a mis… Continue

More of the Same...?

Well... Maybe, if our Congress can't get off it's collective butt and do something (and barring some new and terrible 'neo-terrorist' extravaganza concocted by the current administration as a pretext for enabling martial law...), we just might have a shot at fixing things in 2009 -- maybe, if we don't elect more of the same under different colors...

What do I mean? Right now, the bigger Repos are starting to bail and run for cover, deserting a sinking ship with a madman at the helm. Not… Continue

Beginning of the End? Things may be slow, but they're moving

I really don't see where Cindy Shehan gets off lately, thinking to challenge the likes of Nancy Pelosi over her "failure" to institute articles of impeachment against the chimp by a specific date. Perhaps she doesn't yet understand that the congressional Dems are as much, if not more constrained than they were when in the minority -- hamstrung by the absence of a clear majority to make things happen NOW... Such a gambit, at the present moment, might indeed reverse many of the gains we've made in… Continue

Al Queda, 9/11 and Iraq

Isn't it funny, in a rather sick way, to see Bushie fall back on the same old, threadbare lies connecting Al Queda, 9/11, and Iraq in the same bucket -- this time as grounds for vetoing a troop funding bill that sets time limits?

Bush as much as told the world over the past 48 hours that Iraq is HIS war, and he's not accepting any restrictions from anyone on how he conducts it. He's openly exposed his crank for the hundred thousandth time,, and yet nobody sees fit to step on it.…

Hmm. Nice site, but, is there a place to create, post and/or respond to polls? You'd be surprosed how intelligent your readership gets when they have a point or two on which to hang their discussion threads...

The Impeachment Zone...

Picture a man, whose gone on a journey full of sights and sounds: he's entered...the IMPEACHMENT ZONE... He'd wondered if there were one out there, wondered if anyone would manifest the cojones to step out and say what needed to be said, to do what needed to be done, and, more to the point, was willing and able to publicly associate his or her face with the battle cry for impeachment. It seems he's found such a place. And he wonders, how long will it take, and actions will be taken to get impeac… Continue

Owl,
Good stuff.
Please read my post about the MAY 1st strike!
If you agree (please feel free to comment!), let everyone you know become aware... THIS is our (last?) chance--for impeachment, for ending the occupation of Iraq, AT LEAST for forcing our topics into the presidential campaigns!

I worked with a guy on a YP boat who felt women had no place in the military. He was "old school" military as well as an old fashioned sailor. He also felt women had no place on a boat.
That was hard to overcome, but eventually we just agreed to disagree and he never gave me a hard time about it.
My Chief as someone I really looked up to though. He not only defended me, but challenged me to work hard. He was tough but fair and I appreciated it dearly. I was usually exhausted at the end of the day, but we always ended it laughing.
Sure, there are somethings I really miss about my time in the service. I knew when I was there I was there for the right reasons...and I really was willing to go to war if necessary. It's just things changed when I got out and I was able to see things from a completely different perspective finally.
The whole reason I got out was because everything changed for me once my son was born. He was my FIRST priority and the Navy hated me for that.
At one point my boat was scheduled to take a three week training run up the coast to train newly Commissioned officers how to drive a boat. Well, these orders came up with less than 24hrs notice, my husband (Who out ranked me) was away at GITMO doing "War Games" and my Command childcare contracts were only allowed to watch a military dependent child for 72hrs consecutively. So, after the first five days underway my son, had I actually showed up for duty, would have been placed in Rhode Island State Child/Family Services until I returned and I possibly could have lost perminant custody of my own child...just for doing my JOB!

This was unconscionable in my book. So, instead of reporting for duty for this three week training run, I felt I had no choice but to go UA until my next regular muster.
I was immediately arrested and held for UA until I could talk to a JAG to have my released to care for my son until my Captain's Mast.

It was agreed that I had gone UA but not without warrent. My base Captain agreed I was unfairly placed in a situation where I had to make the choice I did and that it would be best to simply seperate me from service under a Voluntary Discharge, with full Honors!
And Unheard of "RE4" Reenlistment code attached to a "Honorable" discharge.
Yeah, I was railroaded.

Honestly, I have no military plans at all, except to support my son being openly against the war as well and his decission to NOT ever join any branch of service. Just a couple of years ago, when he was just a Junior in High School recruiters were calling our home on a daily basis and I sat down and calmly told them that my family supports our fighting brothers and sisters but not their Commander In Chief. I then asked them to please never call my home again as my son, at that time, was still a legal minor and I did not want them harassing my family anymore.
It actually worked too.
They never called back after I explained that I'm Ex-Navy and am well aware of the law in regard to harassing minors.
I have also spoken to a few female family members and asked them to seriously reconcider enlisting in any military branch. Having been there and done that, I still don't think they're ready for female enlisted at all. The "Old Boys" network just can't get it through their thick heads that we require a different kind of attitude and handling. We're not men with internal plumbing. We're WOMEN and in that we have a completely different way of thinking, processing information and acting out on decission making. We handle stress in a completely different way from men and can actually handle much more than our brothers. We can actually problem solve on our feet better and hold more "First time" shooter records than our brothers.
But that doesn't mean we're better, we're just different.

that' a good question. where is the go out and get'em attitude our people had in the 60's?
it makes u wonder if our imformation superhighway has only served to defeat us. we need to revive the spirit of the 60's and get people out in the streets with signs and chants and oneness all around to prove we will not sit down in front of the computer to fight this battle passivelyand quietly. we have to make some noise if we want to be heard!
